Over the past two months or so, Darwin Núñez has seen his game time limited at Liverpool as Arne Slot has only used him as a substitute.
The Uruguay international’s future beyond this season is likely to be away from Anfield.
On April 28th, AS explained that it’s almost certain the striker will leave Liverpool in the summer window. They also stated Atlético Madrid are interested in securing his services.
D Sports took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report a surprise claim of River Plate as an option for the 25-year-old.
According to the report, the Liverpool player has been offered to River Plate and could join them in time for the Club World Cup in June. This indicates he could secure a move away from the Reds just a weeks after the completion of this season.
D Sports state the former Benfica man’s salary ‘wouldn’t be an impediment’, meaning it shouldn’t be an obstruction for River Plate to sign him.
The post makes no mention whether Núñez has been offered to River Plate on loan or for a permanent transfer.
If Núñez were to leave Liverpool, it would be a surprise if he were to join the Argentine club instead of continuing in Europe.
