With Alexander Isak already announced and ready to play for Newcastle United, outlet Mundo Deportivo today shares a surprising story about another Premier League club who wanted the striker.

The outlet writes that before joining the Magpies, the player turned down the chance of signing for Manchester United.

It’s said the Red Devils had put a ‘juicy offer’ on the table for the 22-year-old. However, following a recommendation from the agency who represents him, he dismissed that opportunity.

Mundo Deportivo writes that his former club Real Sociedad were aware of this approach from Manchester United, even though the Old Trafford side never placed a formal bid for the signing.

In the end, Newcastle showed up to land him. They first had a €50m offer rejected by the La Liga side, and then the €70m was considered ‘irrefutable’ by the Spanish club, who shall also get €5m in bonuses.

We must say that even though the Magpies can certainly make attractive offers and present an interesting project these days, it still seems a little strange to see a player accept them after turning down Manchester United like that. Unless the conditions put forward by the Old Trafford side were poor, there doesn’t seem to be many reasons to rule out one and take the other.
