The stories linking Napoli star Victor Osimhen to Chelsea are back in the rumour mill.

That possibility is today brought back by Italian outlet Il Mattino, who say that following the summer talks, the player’s transfer to the Blues may have just been postponed for one year.

With reports in England claiming Chelsea and Napoli will keep in touch, this story highlights the conditions shall be different this time.

The main reason is that his contract with the Serie A side expires in 2025, and that means the club may feel forced to sell him next summer, feeling the pressure of possibly losing him for free the following year.

Still, there’s a chance Napoli could convince Osimhen to sign a new deal with them. They’d also have a bigger chance to hold him in case Chelsea fail to qualify for the Champions League once again.

The striker has just been announced in the list for the Ballon d’Or, and speaking to the Nigerian media, he talked about how much that means to him. The quotes are relayed by Daily Post Nigeria.

“I must say it is a dream come true for me. It is a big honour for me and my family.

“I have worked so hard for a moment like this, and I must say it is a reward for all the years of hard work and dedication. This can only spur me to do better and get more recognition.”
