This international break has seen Cristian Romero highly praised by the Argentine media, as the Tottenham defender has built on his strong start to the campaign under Ange Postecoglou and delivered for his country.

The centre-back was compared to He-Man just a few days ago, showing just how highly rated he is in his native Argentina, but the latest story focuses on a softer side of the Spurs player.

Relayed by TyC Sports, an interview with the Tottenham star’s parents revealed a very kind gesture from Romero, as he bought his mother a house.

This didn’t take place when he moved to England, where he will be on a lot of money, but earlier in his career when he got his first paycheque.

His father, Víctor Romero, was the one who brought up the anecdote on Radio Villa Trinidad, which left his wife, Rosa, emotional.

He said: “With his first salary, I remember that he called his mother and asked her to choose the house she wanted. He gifted the house to his mother.”

Rosa Romero elaborated: “My birthday was coming up, and 20 days before, I was taken to see different houses. I thought it was a house that Cuti wanted to buy for himself, because I always stressed to him that he should invest on a roof over his head. I didn’t have my own house, and when he showed me around, he asked me if I liked it.

“I was delighted, it was a beautiful brand new house and suddenly he said to me: ‘This house is my birthday present’. To this day, I remember that and I can’t go on, I get emotional…”

The 25-year-old has started the season in a great manner for Tottenham under Postecoglou, scoring two goals in his first four games, helping the club remaining undefeated for the time being, having won three and drawn the other.
