Liverpool star Luis Diaz has been accused of elbowing a Chile player during a heated contest between Colombia and Chile last night.

American Monumental, an outlet of Bolavip, cover the Liverpool player today and suggest he got away with a serious foul on Diego Valdés.

They report that one of the ‘most controversial’ moments in the game came when the Chile man ‘disputed the ball’ against Diaz and the Liverpool man ‘left a little memory’ for him by hitting him in the face with his elbow.

This caused plenty of discontent among the Chilean team, who were left even more incensed when the referee whistled for the incident but only handed Diaz a yellow card.

They wanted the Liverpool man to be sent off or for the incident to be reviewed by VAR, but the ref decided the clash was not worthy of more than a yellow.

It was one incident of plenty in the game, with the Liverpool star even commenting after the game how it had been more of a battle than a football match.

“It was very difficult to get on the field,” he told RCN and Caracol, relayed by El Heraldo.

“It was very difficult to have the ball and play our game, what characterises us, what we proposed during the week, but hey, we had to play like that. It was obvious that it was going to be a tough match, more fought than played.”

Whether that’s the end of Chile’s frustration remains to be seen, although it all appears to be a case of hot heads and subsequent complaints after something of a feisty encounter.

These kind of incidents tend to be common place when South American sides clash and temperatures rise, and this game was more of the same.

Given Diaz was given a yellow card that would be the end of it, although that won’t do anything to appease Chile of course.
