As fans of the club will have noticed, Diego Costa remains a Chelsea player. Despite a summer of what can only be described as winding up the club, manager Antonio Conte, and Chelsea fans, Costa is still employed at Stamford Bridge.
Marca explain in their Monday that’s because of Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban, otherwise Costa would have signed for the rojiblancos by now. There’s no rush from Atletico to do a deal with Chelsea, because they can’t register Costa in their squad until January anyway, so getting a deal done now rather than on August 31st isn’t that appealing.
Obviously this isn’t the situation Chelsea want, and Marca say the same can be said for Diego Costa. He’s sent every signal he possibly can about a transfer to Atletico, and still the Spanish club haven’t done anything.
Costa has used social to send a ‘thousand and one winks’ over his preferred destination, but there’s so far been no concrete response.
Marca believe Costa won’t let this go on indefinitely, and should Atletico not make a move very quickly, the striker will instruct Jorge Mendes to find him another destination, anywhere as long as it’s not Chelsea.
Whilst Diego Simeone wants the player, it’s not too hard to believe that Costa is keener than Atletico right now.
