Earlier this month, Diario AR stated Manchester City are set to activate Máximo Perrone’s release clause and he is expected to arrive at the Etihad after the South American Youth Football Championship in February.

Three days ago, Vélez Sarsfield president Sergio Rapisarda confirmed the Citizens have made an offer, but it didn’t convince them. The club chief had also revealed Pep Guardiola had called the midfielder on three occasions.

There seems to be a new development in the deal to take the 20-year-old to Manchester City.

According to Argentine journalist César Luis Merlo, the player is ‘one step away from signing’ for the Premier League winners.

Perrone has an €8m release clause in his contract, but the journalist claims Guardiola’s side will pay more than this figure to carry out the operation. That had been mentioned before and is seen as a way of spreading the cost rather than paying in one go.

César Luis Merlo adds Vélez wil ‘finalise the details of the transfer’ that will see the Argentina U20 international move to Manchester City.

Operating mainly as a defensive midfielder, Perrone has managed three goals and two assists from 33 matches last year.
