On August 9th, journalist Florian Plettenberg stated Manchester United are the favourites to sign Benjamin Pavard and have started talks with Bayern Munich. Two days ago, he said Bayern have rejected the Red Devils’ first offer for the player who has already agreed personal terms.

On Monday, Abendzeitung München stated the defender is already at Manchester United mentally.

Later that day, SportBild reported he’s desperate to leave the Bavarian club for Erik ten Hag’s side. It was also said the two clubs are set for a new round of talks after Bayern rejected the English club’s first bid.

Sky Deutschland again point out that Pavard wants to leave Bayern and that Manchester United are favourites to secure his services.

The Red Devils are in the market for a new defender to replace Harry Maguire, who’s set to leave Old Trafford. The 27-year-old, who has a contract until 2024, seems to the main target.

It won’t be easy for the Premier League side to sign the France international, according to Sky transfer insider Philipp Hinze.

“Now comes the big but from United’s point of view. There’s contact between the clubs, but Bayern are currently not really ready to negotiate. The sum on the table is far from what the Bavarians imagine,” he said.

Sky don’t mention the figure offered by Manchester United or what is requested by the German champions. Despite the latter rejecting the bid, the report says Pavard’s future ‘remains open’.

Plettenberg took to Twitter on Monday to add that Manchester United are ‘pushing’ to sign Pavard, who is is ‘very open’ to making a switch to Old Trafford.
