Sporting Club de Portugal defender Jeremiah St Juste has confirmed he’s received calls from ‘the top of the Premier League’ after claims of Liverpool making contact with his agent.

The centre back has been speaking to Voetbalzone about his season so far and potentially being called into the Netherlands squad under Ronald Koeman.

He has been impressing with Sporting in Portugal this season, establishing himself in the heart of their defence with several big performances.

He’s also been in the limelight in Europe, starring in the Europa League and in particular their two-leg victory over Premier League leaders Arsenal in the last 16.

Following that victory, it was claimed in Portugal that Liverpool had been in touch with his agent about a possible move, with them keen to improve their defence this summer.

It’s believed Jurgen Klopp will be carrying out something of an overhaul after a disastrous season and adding to the centre of defence, which has been a problem this year, will be among the plans.

Thus they had been in touch with St Juste about a potential move after being thrilled by what he had shown against Arsenal.

The 26-year-old has now confirmed contact with the Premier League, although he did not name Liverpool specifically.

“Because I did not play everything at the beginning of this season, I briefly considered a rental to the Eredivisie last winter,” he said.

“Two top Dutch clubs inquired about me. I briefly thought about it because I still feel that in Eredivisie you qualify for Oranje quicker.

“Meanwhile, I am very happy I stayed here. Then you see how quickly it can go. After the game against Arsenal, there was interest from the top of the Premier League.

“It is up to me to continue this form and show the national coach that I really want it. In the end, of course, the choice is up to him.”
