Gonzalo Montiel’s decision to join Nottingham Forest on a loan deal from Sevilla in the last window has clearly not paid off.

The right-back has clocked in 245 minutes from six games this season and it includes only one start in the Premier League. The Tricky Trees have an option to make the defender’s stay permanent, but he has other plans.

That’s according to Olé, who say the 26-year-old and the La Liga side are both ‘analysing’ leaving Nottingham Forest in January.

Following the ‘unwanted situation’ with Steve Cooper’s side, Sevilla could make the World Cup winner available in the market.

It’s claimed the Andalusian club’s idea is to sell the Argentina international and his former club, River Plate, are closely following his situation. They showed interest in the summer but weren’t able to get a deal over the line.

The South American club ‘maintain the dream’ of bringing him back to the club but the report warns several factors need to fall into place for the transfer. Montiel has to make a ‘significant effort’ if he wants to return to River Plate and this is the first step.

Olé add River Plate must also deal with competition from Flamengo and Al-Ittihad to sign the Nottingham Forest man.

It’s not clear where Montiel will play next year but it’s unlikely to be at Nottingham Forest.
