Manchester United are one of the clubs in the mix to sign Atlanta United’s Thiago Almada.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who state Manchester United have ‘carefully followed’ the 22-year-old ‘for months’. The midfielder has already revealed his desire to move to Europe in January.

“I want to go Europe now. I want to go in the next transfer window. I would like any top league, if I had to choose it would be Premier League or La Liga, but I would like any league,” he told ESPN Argentina.

Calciomercato relay that and add there’s ‘no shortage’ of teams in Europe that have the Argentine on their radar.

From England, it’s said Manchester United have followed the player more than Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool. From Spain, Valencia are monitoring him ‘from afar’, just like Marseille in France.

The South American has long had admirers in Italy, where he even came close to joining Napoli, when Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli was at the Naples club.

Giuntoli still likes the player and the website questions whether he would consider signing Almada for the Old Lady. Massimiliano Allegri needs an attacking midfielder in January and the Argentine’s profile would suit the Turin club.

It’s claimed ‘there is an opening’ from Atlanta United, who are aiming to sell their star for €20m.This doesn’t suit Juve as they want to sign players on loan with an option/obligation to buy.

For now, Manchester United have carefully observed Almada and his €20m price shouldn’t be an issue for them.

It needs to be seen whether Erik ten Hag’s side will seriously consider a move for Almada, who has managed 13 goals and 16 assists from 35 games this year.
