Having returned to Chelsea from Inter last summer, Romelu Lukaku finished the season with 15 goals and two assists from 44 matches, with eight goals coming in the league.
The striker was restricted to 16 league starts as he lost prominence under Thomas Tuchel in 2022, and this has convinced him to make a move away from the west London club.
Inter have been repeatedly pushed forward as the option for the 29-year-old in Italy, and Gazzetta dello Sport state the possibility to return to the San Siro on a loan deal for the ex-Everton man can become a reality.
That’s because of the steps taken by the Belgium international himself, as the report states he has ‘confronted’ Thomas Tuchel about his desire to leave the Blues and has also held talks with the club’s leaders.
It’s claimed Lukaku has ‘spoken directly’ with Chelsea’s new owner, Todd Boehly, to get an exit from Stamford Bridge, and after good talks with both the manager and Boehly, the report says the green light has arrived for him to leave the club.
The problem, however, is with the numbers involving the loan deal of Lukaku and the Blues’ €25m valuation of the Dutchman, because the Nerazzurri, for their part, value Dumfries at €40m.
Inter are willing to pay a loan fee to Chelsea for Lukaku, but that figure will depend on the success of the Dumfries deal.
