Chelsea are interested in a move for Werder Bremen goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka this summer as they look to add a third keeper to their squad.

That’s according to Deichstube, who say that Chelsea and coach Thomas Tuchel are ‘looking at’ signing the Czech stopper.

The website reports that the Blues are looking to add a goalkeeper to their squad this summer, with Willy Caballero having ended his contract and Kepa Arrizabalaga potentially departing.

Pavlenka, therefore, would arrive as an alternative to Edouard Mendy, although whether that would be a situation he’d be happy with remains to be seen.

Either way, Chelsea are interested, and Petr Cech is said to be ‘campaigning’ for the signing of his compatriot Pavlenka.

His words ‘carry a lot of weight’ at Stamford Bridge, especially when it comes to goalkeepers, and it’s felt that could push the Blues into making a move.

Pavlenka will be the deciding factor, though. He is reportedly happy in Bremen with his family and could imagine a stay at the club, even after they were relegated.

He would like to stay in the top flight, and that’s difficult to do as all the Bundesliga goalkeepers have their number ones set.

That opens up the door to a move to England, and Bremen could certainly do with the money if the likes of Chelsea were to make an offer.

At the minute, that doesn’t seem forthcoming, but it could change should Kepa leave.
