Following the announcement from the government on Thursday evening the current lockdown would go on for at least three more weeks, most of Britain will now be preparing themselves to watch the sunny weather from within their abode rather than basking in it.

We say most because there remains some who like to ignore the rules set in place, potentially putting lives at risk by going outside and mingling among each other.

It’s certainly a bit frustrating, and that’s not just us saying it, but Bruno Saltor, who used to play for Brighton & Hove Albion and now is a member of Graham Potter’s staff, isn’t impressed either.

The player gave a lengthy interview to the Spanish press agency EFE, relayed by La Vanguardia, where he discussed the current situation from England.

He said: “The government have made recommendations, but they’re really subjective and people apply them in their own way. People don’t see the danger and continue to go in the streets. We’re already at a critical number of deaths, and I hope therefore people will start to take it more seriously and give it the importance it requires.”

For him, there’s not much to it, and he’s right: “With a simple and easy gesture, like no going outside, you are collaborating with society. And we’re already helping a lot of people. These days, we all empathise with each other a little more. We all understand each other more, and this is precisely one of the positive things this virus will leave us.

“It’s in moments like this that trivial stuff disappears and you realise what your priorities are. You have a lot of time to think and reflect and to value what’s important in life and that’s your people. The family members, the friends. Football, like Valdano said, is the most important of the least important things.”

Retiring from football last year, the former right-back spent seven years at Brighton following his free transfer from Valencia in 2012.

During that period, the now 39-year-old made 235 appearances for the Seagulls in both the Premier League and (mostly) the Championship, scoring six goals and assisting another 19.
