A couple of years ago, Leeds United were heavily linked to Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez.

Reports from that time claimed that the Whites were very much focused on signing the Uruguayan player, having submitted a few bids to get the signing done.

Even though that transfer never happened, the possibility of a move to Leeds is now confirmed by the player in an interview with Sport890.

Nandez had this week a conversation with his home country’s media which was mostly about the national team. Now since it’s Marcelo Bielsa who’s in charge of Uruguay, the midfielder recalled that he had the chance to work with the manager back then, when he wanted to bring him to Elland Road.

“Years ago, one of the possibilities was to go to Leeds, the team where Bielsa managed. He is a spectacular professional. He goes game by game and depending on how the team works,” Nandez told Sport 890.

Nandez not only stayed at Cagliari but continues there to this day. He’s beeen at the club for four years, and has his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Bielsa, meanwhile, stayed unemployed for a long period since his departure from Leeds in February 2022.

It was in May 2023 that he accepted Uruguay’s proposal, and has four games in charge of the national team.
