It was in December 2021 that Brentford came very close to signing Brazilian fullback Vanderson.

Even his former club Grêmio confirmed the Bees’ offer at the time, while the Brazilian media reported that his move to the Premier League side was nearly completed.

Vanderson, however, ended up receiving a late offer from AS Monaco, and chose to move to the Ligue 1 side instead. According to stories from back then, he preferred to live in France and also pay less in taxes.

The fullback had quite a good start at the club, and as he’s now featured in an interview with outlet Onze Mondial, he was asked about being close to moving to Brentford and still dreaming of playing in the Premier League.

“Yes, it’s an objective for all those who want to evolve at the highest level. It’s a big league like Ligue 1. But first, I want to play here and compete in the Champions League.”

Now if Brentford are still interested in signing the Brazilian, they better get prepared for the bigger competition there is for him now. According to reports this month, many European sides became interested given his start at Monaco, with Premier League sides such as Manchester United and Newcastle United getting involved in the race as well.
