Liverpool are not pushing forward with a plan to sign Wolfsburg defender Maxence Lacroix, despite claims about it being his dream move and them being interested.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say the Reds are ‘not interested’ and it is instead ‘slightly less posh’ Premier League sides who are exploring a move for him.

Reports in England had linked Liverpool with a move for the French central defender, with the centre of defence having been a problem area again for the Reds this season thanks to injuries to the likes of Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.

Lacroix was seen as a cheap option to solve that as he’s valued at around €15m and those reports had claimed that they were eyeing up a move, which would be a dream switch for the player.

Foot Mercato, though, say Liverpool have put that idea, if it ever was there in the first place, to one side and they are ‘not interested’ in the player.

According to their information Atalanta are currently very interested in the defender while teams below Liverpool in the Premier League are also ‘trying to recruit’ him.

Anfield, though, won’t be one of his potential destinations as it seems those in charge at Liverpool are looking elsewhere for the time being.
