Poland’s team manager Jakub Kwiatkowski has revealed Aston Villa defender Matty Cash has used YouTube to learn the Polish national anthem ahead of his debut for the country.

Cash was born in Slough, England but elected to apply for Polish citizenship last month via his mother, who was born in the country.

He made the decision after spending some time exploring the possibility of changing countries, with the chances of an England call up slim given the competition in his position.

With the likes of Trent Alexander Arnold and Reece James already in the squad and the likes of Aaron Wan Bissaka and several others all competing to get into Gareth Southgate’s squad, the chances of the Aston Villa man being a regular in the future seemed slim.

That is not the case for Poland, for whom he is likely to be the first choice, and he has already been called up to feature in their final two World Cup qualifiers this month.

If he does make his debut, he’ll have to know the national anthem, and according to Kwiatkowski, the Aston Villa man has put the effort in to ensure he’s prepared for when the cameras are rolling.

“Matty already knows the Polish anthem,” Futbol report him saying.

“He sent me a sample on Saturday, and it’s not bad, although he sings phonetically. Whatever he has never spoken our language before, so no wonder.

“In London, I told him this: listen, I don’t know how you do it, but you have to learn the anthem. You have to know it.

“When you’re in the starting line-up, and the cameras show you, you have to sing it. You don’t have to recite like the best Polish actor, but people should see the passion, the energy.

“And he learned, from… YouTube. Besides, Cash still has a few days left, so we will give him a few lessons during the training camp.”
