Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka remains on Manchester United’s radar, with a move away from the German club starting to look likely.
That’s according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, who reports that Bayern are considering selling the 29-year-old so they can fund a move for Florian Wirtz.
Plettenberg reports that Bayern want the Bayer Leverkusen star but have an urgent need to raise the funds necessary to get him from their rivals.
Thus, they are considering selling Goretzka to help raise those funds, particularly with his contract set to expire in 2026.
At the moment a move abroad to a top European club seems more likely for the midfielder than a transfer inside the Bundesliga and that’s where Manchester United come into play.
They are on the list of ‘already interested’ clubs and still have him on their radar. However, no price tag has been set for him for now.
That’s all Plettenberg has to say on the matter for now, so it seems Manchester United are not doing anything beyond having the Bayern Munich midfielder on a list.
That’s hardly surprising given he’s been linked for years, and their midfield remains a problem area that most would agree needs addressing. The big question is whether they’d want to spent a likely big sum on a 29-year-old.
It’s doubtful, as is how Goretzka would fit into the new system Ruben Amorim will likely look to adopt at Old Trafford moving forwards.
Both of those things make us doubt he’s a serious target, but Plettenberg says he’s on the list and someone to keep an eye on in future if Bayern do really push forward with plans to sell.
