Norwich City came close to signing Marvin Zeegelaar from Sporting in the January window. Reports from Portugal said the clubs had agreed a €3.75m fee for the player, but the Canaries weren’t able to convince the left-back to join them.
And Zeegelaar keeps being unable to impress in Lisbon. In 20 league appearances this season he hasn’t managed to impress Jorge Jesus, who according to Record today, has put him on the transfer list.
The newspaper claims the player could be set for England, and, when mentioning Norwich City’s old interest, the story gets curious.
They say Norwich offered him a bigger salary than the one Zeegelaar earns at Sporting, but the player didn’t move because the Canaries weren’t looking like they would fight for promotion to the Premier League.
In fact the club didn’t get a playoff spot, but now Record claims “things may change” this time. They don’t make it clear if Zeegelaar has changed his mind, or if some Premier League club have shown up wanting to sign him, although it sounds more like the first option.
Considering the low fee Norwich had agreed in January, the price shouldn’t change much now, at least if the competition continues to be non-existent.
