You’ll remember in January when Leicester City were scrambling around looking for a new centre-back to provide cover for their ageing defence, eventually landing Molla Wague on loan from Granada.
One of their targets back then was Sassuolo’s Francesco Acerbi, while Anderlecht’s Kara was also the subject of a bid from the Foxes.
Leicester were reported to have placed two bids for the 29-year-old Italian centre-back, but the Serie A side were against a departure midseason and took the decision to politely say no to the Premier League sides.
That hasn’t put off Craig Shakespeare, however, who appears to be pursuing similar targets to his predecessor Claudio Ranieri, as FootMercato in France report another offer has been sent to the Italian club for the summer transfer window.
Their information comes as Lyon in Ligue 1 are also keen on Acerbi’s services, with Sassuolo apparently ready to let him go for a fee of around €10m.
Such a fee for a reliable centre-back like the 29-year-old would be a decent coup for the Foxes, but with no European football to offer, something the French side can, they might have to use the financial card.
It’s a good card to have, to be fair.
