Portuguese newspaper O Jogo brings a story today saying Luís Campos is close on being Milan’s next football director.
The former Lille official would be the replacement for Leonardo, whose departure from the Rossoneri is considered to be ‘imminent’.
Campos has been linked to several clubs this season, including Chelsea, and O Jogo brings the reason why things didn’t go through with the London side.
They say the Blues’ offer had been on the table not long ago, but the possibility of joining the club collapsed due to FIFA’s ban stopping them from making signings in the upcoming transfer window.
O Jogo doesn’t make it clear if it’s Campos or Chelsea who gave up on the deal due to the transfer ban.In fact, the Portuguese press had really been reported the Blues’ chase for Campos.
Stories from last month said the talks for him to move to the Stamford Bridge had been ‘intense’, but it’s understandable for the director of football to want a job where his advice will be acted upon instantly, rather than 12 months down the line.
