La Liga side Villarreal are eyeing up a move for Newcastle United right-back Javier Manquillo as Unai Emery looks to solve a problem position.
Villarreal recently lost first-choice Mario Gaspar to injury and faced with an ever-increasing schedule; Emery wants to improve the position.
He has asked the club to find a player with characteristics similar to Alfonso Pedraza, a player who is described as having a profile that is perfectly adapted to the wingback role as he can also play further forwards.
The club are therefore looking at potential recruits and have two names on their list, Newcastle’s Manquillo and River Plate’s Gonzalo Montiel according to El Periódicio Mediterráneo.
Manquillo is a player that both the leadership and Emery like and his profile ‘fits perfectly’ with the full-back characteristics that Emery is looking for.
It’s believed that Newcastle are studying a possible departure for the Spaniard, despite the fact that he signed a new deal until 2024 in June.
Villarreal would prefer a loan deal but will not rule out a permanent deal if it can be interesting for the future.
The Spanish side are not the only ones who have shown an interest in loaning Manquillo, though, meaning Newcastle may have options if they do decide to move him on.
