Newcastle United midfielder Siem de Jong has come in for flak from PSV fans over the weekend. The former Ajax player is currently on loan with the Dutch champions from Newcastle United, after Rafael Benitez decided he was surplus to requirements.

Voetbal International has reported on the whistles De Jong received yesterday during PSV’s clash with Go Ahead Eagles. Like Manchester United’s Marouane Fellaini yesterday at Old Trafford, De Jong was booed by sections of his own supporters as he was about to come as a second half substitute.

After the game De Jong played this down saying he hadn’t heard anything, but this isn’t the first time this has happened since he returned to the Netherlands. However, the Newcastle United loanee had the last laugh he scored PSV’s winner just four minutes after coming on.

De Jong joined PSV on loan in the summer transfer window when it became apparent he wasn’t in the plans of Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez. Since joining the Championship side the attacking midfielder has struggled with injuries, and needed to move on to get more playing opportunities.

However, with PSV poor form this season and their failure to qualify for the next stage of the Champions League has resulted in the player coming in for stick. His brother and PSV teammate Luuk de Jong has also faced criticism in recent weeks after recently going through a goal drought, which ended last weekend.
