According to a claim in the Turkish media, Galatasaray attacker Garry Rodrigues could be dropped for the Istanbul derby with Besiktas at the weekend.

If the Cape Verde international is relegated to the bench this will have implications for Newcastle United as they are reportedly set to get another lowdown on the player this Sunday.

AMK Spor report Galatasaray boss Faith Terim could replace Rodrigues with Sinan Gumus for the clash with Besiktas because he’s become concerned with the player’s recent performances.

Faith believes Rodrigues’ head has been turned by recent transfer speculation and last weekend the player wasn’t too happy with his manager when he was substituted early in the second half.

This will come as a blow to Newcastle United who had plans to send a scout to Istanbul to watch the 27 year old. With just four games left this season this may have been the last chance for Newcastle United to watch Rodrigues ahead of the next transfer window, and certainly in a big game.

It’s expected Newcastle United will be back in for Rodrigues this summer after having two bids rejected in the last two windows. Last summer the Magpies tabled a bid of €6m and in January they had another offer of €8m rejected.
