Following Newcastle United’s 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last night, Magpies’ star Bruno Guimarães had a word with the Brazilian media after the game.

TNT Sports journalist Fred Caldeira asked the midfielder whether the result was unfair, given the many chances created by the English side.

Guimarães agreed with that, recalling some of Newcastle’s attacking plays, and claimed the team should now look forward to the upcoming challenges.

“At least the draw would be the best result. We didn’t have a good first half, but in the second half we were much better, we sought the game,” Guimarães explained.

“From my point of view, we had three clear chances, two on the crossbar, and one with Wilson that the goalkeeper ended up making a great save. It’s sad. I think the draw would be the best, but that’s football.

“Sometimes things don’t go as we plan. It’s a group of death, it’s hard. We have two away games now, we have to add points, it’s very important, and I still believe in us.”

Newcastle know they’ll still have to fight hard for a place in the knock-out stages, and quizzed about what should they change for the next matches, the Brazilian has a couple of suggestions.

“I think we have to be more aggressive. I think we accept the way that Milan marked us in San Siro. I think we have to take a little more risks. The table is telling us to add points, so we have to be a little more aggressive. And, without a doubt, not conceding will be very important.”

Paris Saint Germain are currently on top of Group F with six points. Dormund and Newcastle then come with four each, and Milan are on bottom with just two. So they’re all alive for a place in the next stage, making the final fixtures even more interesting.

Before that, though, the Magpies have a couple of important Premier League games against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Arsenal, as well as an EFL Cup clash versus Manchester United.
