Newcastle United are ‘hot on’ Lyon defender Malo Gusto but the French side are not interested in a deal.

That’s according to journalist Ignazio Genuardi, who says the Magpies are keen on the 19-year-old right-back.

Eddie Howe’s side have been relatively quiet this summer but picked up their business late in the window with a club record deal for Alexander Isak.

There is a feeling they may look to spend more money on deadline day to bolster a positive start to the season and Genuardi says they have their eye on right-back Gusto.

The Portuguese defender has been with Lyon for the entirety of his career, working his way up the youth ranks before moving in the first team last season and establishing himself as a regular.

He’s continued that this season and that’s seemingly alerted Newcastle, who are ‘hot on’ him according to Genuardi. He provides no information on a possible transfer fee or anything of that nature but does make it clear Lyon ‘are not selling’.

The journalist also provides information on a possible Newcastle move for Tottenham’s Lucas Moura, stating that Eddie Howe and co have made a ‘loan request’ for the Brazilian.

Moura finds himself out of favour under Antonio Conte at Spurs, having fallen down the pecking order following the arrival of Dejan Kulusevski and then Richarlison this summer.

He’s subsequently been linked with a move away and Genuardi says Newcastle are eyeing up a loan, although whether Tottenham would accept that isn’t mentioned.

His information echoes that which has been shared in England, though, and as he provides nothing new on the matter, we’ll take it with a pinch of salt for the time being.
