Newcastle United are ‘preparing another attempt’ for Reims youngster Hugo Ekitike after failing to get him in the January transfer window.

That’s according to Corriere Dello Sport, who say the Magpies will compete with Roma and AC Milan for the 19-year-old’s signature.

They explain that Reims are set to be one of the protagonists of the summer transfer window, with sides around Europe looking to take players from a squad packed with talent.

Ekitike is the ‘precious diamond’ of the club, having managed nine goals and three assists in Ligue 1 this season and earned himself plenty of admirers as a result.

He has a contract at the club until 2024 but so far has rejected the idea of extending that deal, meaning ‘he will leave in July’ as the club want to avoid him being in the final year of his deal.

Milan have been following him, and Roma are ‘looking for him’, with transfer chief Tiago Pinto already in contact, having ‘sniffed out the deal’ for his club.

Then there is Newcastle; they made a move for the youngster in the January transfer window as part of their efforts to rebuild, but saw the offer ‘rejected’ by the player.

Unperturbed, they remain keen on his signature and Corriere state that they are ‘already preparing another attempt’ for him.

What they will offer remains to be seen, but it appears Reims are ready to let the striker go for the right price, even if he is the ‘symbol of rebirth’ at the club.

Roma and Milan will be a part of the conversation, too, although Newcastle can be confident of outbidding them should it come to that at any point in the coming months.
