Living a strange couple of years since leaving Aston Villa in October 2020, Ørjan Nyland has found himself a nice new home with Reading F.C.

Without a club until February 2021, when he was picked up by Norwich, the Norwegian goalkeeper stayed with the Canaries until August 17th of last year, when he switched to AFC Bournemouth.

That didn’t last long either, since he was then released by the Championship side in January, before being picked up on March 10th by Reading, who threw him into the starting lineup almost straight away.

He got his debut, somewhat ironically, for the Royals against Bournemouth on March 15th, which ended in a 1-1 draw, before facing Blackburn at the weekend, helping his side earn a much needed three points, as the club currently sit 21st in England’s second-tier.

He’s impressed so much in such a small amount of time at Reading, in fact, that Ståle Solbakken decided to reward him by calling him up to the Norway squad for the current international period as their third goalkeeper.

The national team manager explained his decision on Monday, relayed by Nettavisen.

He said: “He has had two very good games, almost surprisingly good since he has been without match training since the Netherlands game (last November). He has given Reading great peace and has done very well in both matches. You might not have seen that coming a month ago when he was without a club.”
