Deemed unnecessary by Brendan Rodgers for his plans for the current season at Leicester City, Dennis Praet was sent on loan to Torino.

His season has been a mixed bag, because while he has performed well when on the pitch, he hasn’t featured all that much because of injuries.

However, Tuttosport, relayed by Torino Granata, explain the Serie A side simply aren’t the same when he’s not in the starting XI, with a ‘collapse in performance and above all results’ since his last injury in early February.

They’ve average 0.4 points per game compared to 1.8 when he’s been fit, which is a worry since he could miss the rest of the season with a metatarsal fracture.

Then there’s the question of what happens next, because the midfielder is only on loan from Leicester, and while Torino have an option to buy him at €15m, it’s made clear this is ‘too much for a player who has a label of the chronically injured’.

That’s why the Italians ‘are making assessments’, looking at what their options could be, with ‘a renewal of the loan or a large discount’ two ways that ‘could be a welcome path’.

The Leicester midfielder has a big fan in Ivan Juric, his current manager, who has been said to be ready to plead his case to Urbano Cairo, Torino’s owner, to try and keep Praet going forward one way or another.

It will ultimately be up to Leicester, and how generous they feel when the Serie A side undoubtedly come knocking for some negotiations.
