Not long ago, the Italian media claimed that Jesper Lindstrøm chose Napoli over Liverpool.

It was reported that the two clubs battled to sign him from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer, and it was the Serie A side who won the race by finding a €30m deal for him.

It turns out that as Calcio Mercato now brings some quotes from Lindstrøm speaking to Napoli’s website, there’s a mention of Liverpool.

The player didn’t hold anything back when telling their official channels that he is, or was, a fan of the Reds.

“As a child I was full of energy, like now. It’s like I’m still a child, I think a lot of people think so. I’m always smiling, I always think about having fun with my friends and family, I’m always happy and I try to do my best. When I was a kid I really admired Gerrard from Liverpool because I was a Liverpool fan,” said Lindstrøm.

“Now he has stopped playing and now I don’t have a real idol. I only think about myself and the team, I just want to play football and at the moment I don’t have an idol.”

In an interview in October, Lindstrøm confirmed that Liverpool tried to sign him in the summer, also pointing out that he wouldn’t get much playing time there.

On that occasion, he also claimed he was a fan of the Reds, saying he’d rather be playing somewhere else while watching Jürgen Klopp’s side on TV.

Lindstrøm isn’t having all that playing time in Italy, though, as he hasn’t started any league games for Napoli so far. With just 631 minutes on the pitch, perhaps he now regrets not choosing his favourite club.
