Despite claims on Monday that Nikola Milenkovic was basically a West Ham player, a step back has been taken by the Italian press on Tuesday.

TuttoMercatoWeb were the eager beavers, but Corriere dello Sport are a little bit more pessimistic in their print edition.

Don’t worry, there’s no indication the deal will fall through, but their report simply states the €17m (or €15m + €1m in bonus that could do the trick) have ‘not yet arrived’, which is why the transfer hasn’t happened.

The Hammers are reportedly ‘the only club left with serious intentions’ for the Serbian, and ‘it’s close, because they are showing they have good intentions to close the gap’.

Right now, the distance stands at €2-3m, which, if paid, ‘allows West Ham to add an excellent defender to the group, especially in terms of value for money’.

While Corriere dello Sport believe David Moyes’ side are ‘stuck at €13m’, their counterparts at Corriere Fiorentino believe otherwise, claiming the Hammers have ‘increased their own offer, arriving at €16m’.

That should be enough to do the trick, and ‘there is only a need to polish a few details’, which, once resolved, would open the door for Matija Nastasic to arrive and replace his compatriot.

As you can see, we are nearly there, and it’s slowly edging towards completion.
