One man who appears to have been forgotten amid all the Granit Xhaka talk over the past few months is Lucas Torreira.

The Uruguayan was sent to Atlético Madrid on loan last season, where there was a belief a campaign under Diego Simeone would help him relaunch a career that had somewhat stagnated following the arrival of Mikel Arteta.

Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, as he only played a bit part role, and a return to Arsenal ensued.

Now, he’s a bit stuck at the Emirates, where few clubs appear overly keen to gamble on him and where Arteta clearly doesn’t want him around.

Thankfully, there are still some keeping an eye on his situation, such as Lazio, who might need a new midfielder of his ilk before the end of the transfer window.

That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, who explain he ‘will not stay in London’ this summer, and ‘can be taken on good terms’.

Despite Igli Tare, the Serie A side’s director of football, denying an interest, the newspaper claim the ‘track under the track had remained alive’.

Torreira is said to be ‘an opportunity to be seized under the current conditions’, as Arsenal are ‘ready to sell him on loan with the right of redemption’.

However, Lazio need to first work out what they are doing with Gonzalo Escalante or Danilo Cataldi before thinking about the Uruguay international.
