Friday was a busy day for those who are curious about the future of Olivier Giroud.

Following the many rumours about a potential free move to Serie A, since his contract with Chelsea would expire this summer, the Blues caught everyone by surprise by announcing a one-year extension on his deal.

However, speaking to Calcio Mercato, Giroud’s entourage claimed that the striker could still make a move in this transfer window, saying the Stamford Bridge side wouldn’t stop him from taking other offers.

Now RMC released an interview they’ve done with the player, and he was quizzed about the compliments he’s had from Milan star Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who said he’d be welcomed at Milan.

Giroud thanked the Swedish legend, and made it clear that there’s nothing set about his future for now.

“I like his character and his way of expressing himself and having this outspokenness even if sometimes it’s a little violent,” Giroud told RMC.

“It’s good, I take it as an additional motivation. Today, it’s out of the question to talk about my future, Milan are one option among others. Today, there is no question of talking about my future. It’s always nice to hear Zlatan say that sort of thing.”

Even though Chelsea are apparently prepared to let Giroud go, it’s still not clear if they’ll ask for a fee in case of a transfer. That’s a scenario which could perhaps change the stance from Serie A clubs who want him.
