Yesterday’s update about Juventus’ interest in Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic was a bit rubbish.

A chunk of it was based on reports in the English media, and we felt that, for a club said to have made the Serbia international their number one midfield target, they could do a bit better.

Thankfully, Thursday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport up their game a bit and report that Wednesday saw a meeting between Juventus’ director of football Fabio Paratici and Matic’s agent take place in Milan.

The outcome of this meeting wasn’t made clear, but the Italian newspaper explain the contacts between the Serie A side and Nemanja Matic’s clan are ‘frequent’.

Of course, as explained on Wednesday, while the Chelsea midfielder is their number one target, he isn’t their favourite, as that remains Liverpool’s Emre Can, who isn’t quite as available as his Stamford Bridge based counterpart.

Gazzetta aren’t the only ones reporting this meeting, as Corriere dello Sport also mention it, and add a bit more.

According to them, while Juventus are interested, as exemplified by the negotiations, and the player is attracted by the Serie A champions’ project, they feel Chelsea’s €45m valuation is a bit excessive.

Still, stuff is happening, and with Manchester United seemingly out of the picture for the Serbia international, the Italians appear to have a clear run to get Matic.

They just need Chelsea to stop being so greedy.
