In recent weeks Leeds United co-owner Massimo Cellino has been linked with a move back to Italy with Brescia, but purchasing the Serie B club is looking less attractive by the week.

Recently we covered reports from the Italian media that this summer Cellino will sell his 50% stake in Leeds United to Andrea Radrizzani, with buying Brescia then an option. Cellino has close ties with the Lombardy club, and if he did head back to his home county then Brescia is a possibility.

However, this weekend Brescia dropped into the automatic relegation places, and playing in Lega Pro next season is now looking very realistic. Since the turn of the year Brescia have gone on a bad run of results, and their defeat to Salernitana on Saturday cost Cristian Brocchi his job as manager.

Brescia’s plight could have implications for Leeds United, because it’s unlikely Cellino would want to purchase a club in the third tier. The Leeds United chief’s reported plan for Brescia would be to get them into Serie A within two seasons because of the financial gains of the league.

Relegation would have a massive impact on these objectives, and it’s likely Cellino would walk away from any possible deal.
