Many rumours drove Manchester United fans mad during the transfer window, but the ones involving Inter Milan were probably the worst.

First, because not many people wanted José Mourinho to pay €50m for Ivan Perisic. And then things just got worse as the Italian side reportedly wanted Anthony Martial to be involved in the deal.

As a fan favourite, the Frenchman would have been a controversial part of any business, and it’s no surprise Manchester United didn’t let go one of their most talented players.

But it seems there was still a little bit of hope in the Italy, because Calcio Mercato are not very happy when reporting Martial’s winning goal against Tottenham Hotspur.

They say that with six goals in only seven starts (stats slightly manipulated to make things look better, as Martial also scored as a substitute, including on Saturday), the 21-year-old is proving his talent at Manchester United, making a January exit look unlikely.

The move was probably never on the cards for José Mourinho, especially in the winter market. But even if there was still a bit of hope at Inter Milan, these thoughts should be gone by now. Thanks to that goal.
