Manchester United target João Félix is now said to be ‘close’ to leaving Atletico Madrid in January.

It’s Marca who report that the forward has decided to walk away from the Spanish club, having asked his agent Jorge Mendes to find him a new destination.

The report highlights that for the first time, Atletico Madrid are on board with his decision, and are set to make his departure easier, trying to look for a solution for his situation.

Jorge Mendes is now set to speak to many sporting directors and see what he gets on the table. And there’s where Manchester United are once again mentioned, with Marca pointing out the Red Devils have a great relationship with the agent.

The Old Trafford side are named the ‘great candidates’ along with Bayern Munich, Paris Saint Germain and Chelsea. What could increase this competition for him would be Félix’s performances at the World Cup, where he already scored a goal in Portugal’s first group match.

Manchester United’s interest in the player had been highlighted by the Spanish media this month, with Cadena Ser claiming that after the €120m summer offer, it could now be a ‘matter of weeks’ until the Red Devils make a new attempt.
