West Ham United defender Thilo Kehrer has insisted he believes his move to the club is ‘going very well’, despite their precarious league position.

The centre back joined West Ham in a €12m deal in the summer, with the Hammers keen to improve their defence and find a cheap alternative to Nayef Aguerd, who picked up an injury not long after arriving in a big money move.

Kehrer has proven to be that and quickly established himself in David Moyes’ team, starting and finishing 90 minutes in 13 Premier League games so far.

He’s very much a key player under David Moyes, a far cry from his situation at PSG, where he managed just 16 starts in the league last season.

Unfortunately, life at the London Stadium has proven to be tricky so far, with West Ham currently 16th in the table and just a point outside the relegation zone.

That is nowhere near where Kehrer or West Ham thought they’d be this season, but it seems he’s happy with the move so far.

“I wanted to play to get a rhythm and go to the World Cup,” he told L’Equipe when asked why he made the move.

“We’re not getting the results we want but I’m coming to the national team with confidence because I’ve been playing in the best league in the world.

“I’ve always believed that playing is the most important thing to develop, because no amount of training can make up for a game.

“You grow with the challenges you face. The greater the pressure, the greater the growth. My aim was to show my leadership qualities. Being a starter is what I was looking for and it’s going very well. I am happy to have taken this step.”
