One of the stars of the show at Bayer Leverkusen despite his young age, Florian Wirtz will now miss the rest of the season.

The attacking midfielder suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in the 1-0 loss against 1. FC Köln at the weekend, which has put any semblance summer move away from his current club to one side.

Teams such as Manchester United, FC Bayern or even Barcelona have all been linked with the 18-year-old in the past, but they will now have to wait to get their man.

Scoring 10 goals and 14 assists in 31 appearances this season, Wirtz had naturally caught the eye of many teams, among which were reportedly the Red Devils, and Ruhr24 look at what the future could hold for him now.

They state that the likes of Manchester United and co. will ‘all have to be patient now’, as he isn’t going to pass any medical in his current state as he recovers from the serious injury.

In fact, it was already hinted that Wirtz, whose contract with Leverkusen runs out in 2026, was going to stay regardless.

The general consensus is that any transfer for the youngster would require a fee similar to or even superior to the one Chelsea paid for Kai Havertz, and few clubs can afford that these days.

Either way, if Manchester United fans were hoping their club would go for Wirtz in the summer, it’s not going to happen.
