Despite starting well for Marseille following his loan from Manchester United, Eric Bailly simply wasn’t up to scratch against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The defender was at fault for the German side’s goal, and La Provence put him in their section of ratings used to highlight those who had a particularly poor game.

The only ‘in the light’ player was Pau Lopez, the goalkeeper, while Gerson, the Manchester United defender, Alexis Sanchez, Valentin Rongier and Luca Balerdi are all, by contrast, ‘in the shadows’.

They state Bailly, while initially making two good interventions on Randal Kolo Muani and Jesper Lindstrøm, was ‘too hesitant’ at the start of the move that led to the German goal, scored by the latter.

Described as a ‘big mistake’, it tarnished what was otherwise a relatively decent performance by the Ivory Coast international, which is why the newspaper’s reporters gave him a 4/10.

L’Equipe, on the other hand, gave him a 6/10, which is quite generous grade by their standards, although when the fans were invited to vote, they were much closer to what La Provence had in mind, giving him an average of 4.6/10.

Still, the fact the Manchester United loanee was far too passive and at fault for the goal cannot be overlooked, and it’s something Igor Tudor and the rest of the Marseille contingent will want him to learn from going forward, as the Ligue 1 side currently have no points from their first two Champions League games.
