Even though Manchester City are undoubtedly one of the most powerful buyers in Europe, they don’t often have their scouts watching players in Portugal.

When the local media shares the list of emissaries who watched certain games, it’s quite rare to see Pep Guardiola’s side mentioned in those stories.

That’s why it’s very interesting that, according to Record, Manchester City had a representative watching the game between Porto and Arouca at the weekend.

The outlet does not bring a reason for that visit. Since they’re not in the same Champions League group, it seems like the English champions are just having a look at the Portuguese market.

It’s interesting that Manchester City haven’t been linked to any Porto players this summer, so they may be looking for new targets for the next year.

That was an unimpressive 1-1 draw, with not any players from Porto standing out. It turns out that due to a big VAR controversy, the Dragons are even asking for the game’s cancellation.

We shall see if Manchester City will be back for more scouting missions throughout the season.
