Manchester City star Samir Nasri was sent on loan to Sevilla at the start of the season, with the Spanish side also having the option to sign him permanently at the end of the season.

Ahead of Sevilla’s Champions League match against Lyon tonight, President of the Ligue 1 club Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed to RMC Sport that he tried to sign Nasri in the past.

He said: “I liked Samir. We even discussed at a time to see how he could have come to Lyon.”

Aulas insists that the 29-year-old looks like a player who wants to take revenge, and Sevilla gives him the opportunity to do that.

Asked about Nasri’s return to form, he added:”That doesn’t surprise me. Last year he was in a psychological context that did not favour him.

“But every time I went to see a match of Manchester City, we talked about him as a player eager for revenge. Sevilla offers the possibility of taking it.”

Nasri would certainly be hoping to revive his career at Sevilla, and could be a crucial player for Jorge Sampaoli this season.
