Manchester City defender Ko Itakura has successfully passed his medical at Schalke ahead of a loan move to the club.

That’s according to Sky Germany’s Max Bielefeld, who says the centre back is currently signing his contract with the German club.

Itakura has been heavily linked with a move to Schalke over this week, with several reports in Germany indicating Manchester City had agreed on a loan deal with the 2.Bundesliga side.

The Japanese defender was said to be travelling to Germany yesterday before undergoing a medical and finalising his move to his new club.

Bielefeld now says that is one step closer after he successfully passed his medical today, adding that he is currently in the process of signing his contract.

Once that is done, Manchester City and Schalke will announce the loan deal, which includes a €4m option for Schalke to make it permanent at the end of it.
