Manchester United youngster Anthony Elanga has thanked Ralf Rangnick for giving him a chance at the club but insists he has not enjoyed his breakthrough yet.

Elanga was actually handed his Manchester United debut by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City in May last year, but it is under Rangnick that he has really taken off.

The German brought the youngster into the picture against Crystal Palace in early December and he’s been a regular since then, with six starts in 15 games in the Premier League so far.

He’s also been a regular in the Champions League, playing 90 minutes against Young Boys, 15 minutes against Atletico Madrid, a game in which he scored, and 67 minutes in the return leg of that fixture as well.

He’s now a bonafide member of the first-team squad, but despite that, he insists that he has not enjoyed his big break yet.

“When he (Rangnick) came in, first training session. I just wanted to show him what I could do,” he told TV4.

“From there, I’ve played more games under him. So I appreciate Ralf very much. He trusts me, and I just try to take the opportunity that he gives me.

“I feel that every game, I have to show people what I can do. I still have a lot of games to show what I can do. So I still haven’t had my breakthrough yet, I don’t think, but Atletico Madrid was certainly the best game I’ve played so far.”

While Elanga doesn’t think he’s fully broken through yet, the numbers and confidence he is being shown by managers says otherwise.

As well as under Rangnick at Manchester United, he is currently a part of the senior Sweden squad, something which has seen him training alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The legendary striker has already spoken effusively about the youngster, backing him for a bright future in the game if he continues his current development.

And it seems the former Manchester United man has been giving the youngster advice whenever he can.

“Ibra, Zlatan. He played with my father, so we talked about the memories he has with my father,” he added.

“I look up to him because he has played many games for the national team and many club teams.

“He has scored a lot of goals, so he is someone I look up to and have talked to these days, and he has given me good tips. He just says: ‘Keep fighting at United, keep showing what you can do. Your time will come.'”
