Triggering the one-year extension in David De Gea’s deal at Old Trafford, Manchester United gave themselves more time to work on a long-term contract that suits all parties.

As usual, the goalkeeper has been the subject of a few rumours here and there, including one sending him to Paris Saint-Germain, where Gianluigi Buffon could leave at the end of the season.

It’s never been taken fully seriously, especially since Manchester United aren’t interested in selling, but Le Parisien give their side of things after hearing the rumblings that emerged from the British press over the weekend.

They state the ‘trail’ leading to De Gea ‘exists’, but hasn’t really been pursued due to his current renewal talks with the Red Devils.

However, in case said negotiations were to fall through, they do admit the Spain international ‘would see himself land in Paris’.

Even Le Parisien aren’t all that convinced this one could actually happen, and their belief is that next season’s hierarchy in the French capital will likely be Alphonse Aréola starting with Buffon, extending his contract by a year, playing second fiddle to the 26-year-old.

If there’s no excitement in Paris over this, there shouldn’t be any worries in Manchester about it either.
