Manchester United’s admiration for AS Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini isn’t anything new, with claims of José Mourinho’s side considering making a move for the Italian dating back to last year.

Back then, the Red Devils were said to have contacted the player’s agent to ask about his release clause, which was included in the five-year contract he signed that same summer.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a rather good start to the season, used in various positions by Eusebio di Francesco, but it’s over the past two games that he’s really found his feet, earning him a quick feature in Thursday’s Gazzetta dello Sport.

Amid all the praise, it’s revealed that Manchester United are still tracking his performances, present early this season for the 3-3 draw against Atalanta.

The Italian newspaper explain he is now ‘a different player’ than he was then, having been given the freedom to move the ball forward more as the attacking midfielder in Di Francesco’s 4-2-3-1.

As for his release clause, it is said to be valid until 2021, which would be the penultimate year of his deal.

Valued at €30m, Gazzetta explain it’s a ‘two-year’ clause, payable in two instalments of €15m.

Hardly the most expensive player in this day and age, which is why a number of sides, like Juventus and Manchester United, are standing at the ready in case Pellegrini shows signs of wanting to try something new.

At the moment, however, that doesn’t appear to be the case.
