Manchester City were strongly linked to Juventus star Leonardo Bonucci, and reports in Italy suggested the Premier League giants even made a €60m offer for the Italian defender.

However, Bonucci opted to stay at Juventus rejecting a contract worth €8m per season, after tax, from Manchester City.

Juventus are reportedly negotiating a new contract with the 29-year-old that could see him earning €6m per season. According to a latest report on Italian website Sport Mediaset, Manchester City are still interested in signing Bonucci, and could make an offer in the January transfer window.

However, Pep Guardiola’s team apparently face competition from Manchester United, who are also keen on signing the Juventus star. The Turin club, on the other hand, are prepared to reject offers for Bonucci, and want to renew his contract soon.

It’s highly unlikely Juventus would allow Bonucci to leave in the middle of the season. If the Italian international was going to leave then last summer was likely the time, unless there’s a huge breakdown between Bonucci and the club over his renewal, which seems unlikely.
