Manchester City have been given a 35% chance of signing Erling Haaland this summer but have ‘rarely hunted a player as intensely’.

That’s according to Norway’s TV2, who provide their slant on the situation today and try to provide some clarity.

Earlier today, we covered reports in Spain that had Manchester City out in front in the race for Haaland’s signature this summer, with it explained Barcelona believe they will have to try and win him over.

They explained that City are working hard to secure the striker from Borussia Dortmund and have the money available to cover the €250m all in it will probably take.

TV2 present a different outlook, though, assessing that Manchester City have around a 35% of pulling off the deal. That puts them second in the running behind Real Madrid, who they put at 40%.

They state that while Manchester City are one of two clubs, Real Madrid being the other, that ‘stand out’ in the battle for Haaland, they are not in a ‘pure duel’ yet.

According to their information, Pep Guardiola and co have ‘rarely hunted a player as intensely’ as they are doing with Haaland at this moment in time.

Guardiola wants a striker after failing to get Harry Kane last year, and they have now ‘changed priority’ and put Haaland ‘at the top of their wishlist’, as has been stated in England.

In a duel with Real Madrid, they have ‘two clear advantages’; the striker position is completely vacant, so there is no competition, and they are not chasing any other superstars either.

Real Madrid can boast neither of those things, given they have Karim Benzema and are very publicly chasing Kylian Mbappe.

Manchester City can also use their connection to Alfe Inge Haaland, who played for the club and could be used as a trump card.

The big issue is Mino Raiola, though, whose relationship with the club is ‘not optimal’ after falling out with Guardiola following Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s time at Barcelona.

It is because of that TV2 have their chances slightly lower than Real Madrid’s, although there is plenty of time for them to work on changing that before the summer.
