Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Julen Lopetegui ‘has not closed the door’ on midfielder Isco, who is set to be released from his contract at Sevilla.

That’s according to Marca, who cover the Spaniard’s imminent departure today and where he may end up next.

Isco has been linked with a move away from Sevilla for several weeks following a disagreement with director of football Monchi.

The newspaper now says there has been a significant development following that, with the player and the club having ‘reached an agreement’ to end the two-year deal he signed four and a half months ago early.

They say his time at the club will now end ‘abruptly’ and Sevilla are set to announce the termination of his contract in the next few hours.

According to them, both parties are ‘finalising an agreement’ to terminate his contract and the player will become a free agent ahead of the January transfer window.

The situation at the club had begun to deteriorate following the sacking of Lopetegui, who has already been named as a major supporter of the player. Indeed, it was claimed that relationship had opened the door to a move to England with Wolves.

They’ve now negotiated an end to their relationship, with Isco keen to end things as he was one a low contract that would rise due to variables that were not going to be fulfilled due to Sevilla’s poor performances this season.

He has now a ‘new door open’ to choose his next destination, as he did in the summer. At that point he opted to stay in Spain, but that decision did not work out.

Lopetegui ‘has not closed the door’ on the player and would welcome him at Wolves, where he is ‘waiting to finalise a number of signings’ next month.

He will face competition for Isco, though, who has also received approaches from ‘more exotic leagues’ who are willing to offer him ‘good salaries and less competition’.
